I am looking forward to attending the 2023 IEA Global Conference in San Francisco and meeting other Enneagram educators and Enneagram enthusiasts.
Earlier this year, I published A Field Guide to Humans: Enriching Relationships through the Enneagram which will be available for purchase at the conference. I wrote this book for therapists, counselors, and educators who want to introduce their clients and students to the Enneagram in a way that is relatable and immediately useful. As a Marriage and Family Therapist and as an organizational consultant, I found that people with little or no psychology background had a difficult time engaging with many Enneagram books because they seemed “over their head.”
I wrote A Field Guide to Humans as an introduction to the Enneagram as well as a guide for anyone, no matter their level of study, to deepen their relationships with people who see the world differently than they do. This is the book I wish I had as a therapist. It is very user-friendly, filled with images and stories, yet deep in its description of the nine types. My goal was to provide the reader with a way to transform the way they see the people closest to them – to see their strengths and their quirks with understanding and compassion.
I have found that A Field Guide to Humans is useful not just for therapy or consulting clients or for those who are students of the Enneagram. Friends, neighbors and family members are responding to the book in very positive ways and buying more copies for friends and family so they can discuss it together. The book opens deeper conversations about personal behaviors, personality differences, and how to get along better with others, even if further study of the Enneagram is not the immediate goal.
